Fashion as a weapon
In 2008, I was invited to a party organized by a mutual friend. It was a birthday party and only few people were invited. I remember pondering over what to wear as their was this beautiful Dominican babe I was trying to get with. At first, I came up with a bit prep boy look, a faded blue denim pant, a white Ralph Lauren Polo shirt with blue and red stripes on the sleeves and also on the collar, and completed it with a pair of brown Sperry boat shoes.
As I was about to leave the house, I realized I wasn’t feeling my look as it was too ordinary for an occasion I was going to make a statement 😄. Eventually, I settled for a navy blue tuxedo pant, white and black Hugo Boss button down shirt with embroidery crest tucked into my pant and accessorized with a brown Gucci leather belt, a pair of velvet loafers, and a black Ray ban sunglasses to lower the brightness of July sunshine. With this assemble, I instantly noticed the crazy attention I was craving.
Few minutes later, I arrived at the venue of the party, immediately I exited my pearl white Lexus RX350, all attention was shifted on me. Smiles, peeps, admiration was all for me. It was at that moment I understood the importance of fashion and how it can be weaponized if it's used right.
Many dudes see fashion as ladies/women things, but I must tell you this; fashion has absolutely nothing to do with age, gender, or even race. Fashion is basically a unique state of mind. An element that speaks louder that voice. Fashion is as important as the air in which we breathe. Fashion is life!
